An executor, or personal representative, is nominated by a person in his/her will and approved by a court to manage and distribute probate assets in accordance with the terms of the will.

An executor’s duties may include:

  • Collect assets

  • Prepare & file inventory

  • Prepare & file appraisal

  • Sell property

  • Pay debts & taxes

  • Prepare & file plan of distribution

  • Obtain court decree of distribution

  • Prepare & file final accounting

Smaller probate estates and “informal” administration will involve fewer duties and proceed quicker.
