Solatia Payments
Payments in sympathy or recognition of loss are common in some parts of the world when the actions of another result in loss, damage, injury or death.
Solatia payments are monies or in-kind payments to a victim or a victim's family as an expression of sympathy or condolence. The payments are immediate and, generally, nominal.
The individual or unit involved in the damage has no legal obligation to pay. Compensation is simply offered as an expression of sympathy in accordance with local custom.
Solatia payments are paid from unit operation and maintenance budgets.
