Flying Evaluation Boards

A rated officer has no inherent right to remain on flying status but does have an obligation to maintain certain professional standards. Accordingly, qualification for aviation service is subject to review when an officer’s rated duty performance becomes suspect.

The purpose of a Flying Evaluation Board, or FEB, is to examine a rated officer's professional qualification for aviation service, evaluate potential for future rated duties, and make recommendations to higher authorities.

An FEB is not an adversarial or judicial proceeding. Instead, it is an administrative board made up of members, qualified for aviation service, who review another member's qualification for such service. It is a peer quality review.

An FEB does not make recommendations regarding disciplinary actions.
