Board for Correction of Military Records
The Board for Correction of Military Records is an agency within the Office of each military service Secretary that exists to correct military records due to error or injustice.
The remedies offered by the Board may be as simple administrative correction of records, or as substantial as directing promotion or awarding back pay. The Board may not reinstate a member who has been discharged from the National Guard.
Typical requests for relief includes:
Upgrading a performance report or discharge characterization
Challenges to an Article 15
Entitlement to retirement pay
Rank adjustment
Anyone with military records, or his/her heirs, may apply for relief within 3 years of the error or injustice.
