Article 139 Claims

Claims initiated and processed under Article 139, Uniform Code of Military Justice, permit individuals to file claims against military members who willfully take or destroy personal property. 

Article 139 claims may not be filed for:

• Breach of contract

• Property damaged through negligence

• Personal injury or death

• Actions or omissions of military personnel acting within the scope of their employment

Claimants must file within 90 days of the loss or destruction of the property.
