Foreign Claims Act
The Foreign Claims Act allows for reimbursement for property losses, injury or death caused by US service members or civilian employees. The purpose is to promote and maintain friendly relations with the host nation.
The Act is the most widely-used claims statute in foreign deployments.
Only claims resulting from noncombat activities, or negligent or wrongful acts or omissions, are compensable.
As a general rule, the Act will not apply in countries where a Status of Forces Agreement already provides for such claims.
