Family Readiness Groups

An Army Family Readiness Group (FRG) is an organization created to foster a climate of mutual support within the unit. FRG goals include supporting the military mission through support, outreach and information to family members.

FRG mission-essential activities are supported using a unit's appropriated funds.

FRGs may also maintain informal funds (private funds generated by FRG members that are used to benefit the FRG membership as a whole) up to $10,000. Use of informal funds is limited to expenses consistent with the purpose and function of the fund's Statement of Purpose.

An FRG may conduct a fundraiser on the installation if:

  • The commander approves after consultation with the judge advocate or ethics official;

  • The fundraising purpose is consistent with the approved Statement of Purpose; and

  • The manner of fundraising is consistent with the Joint Ethics Regulation and AR 600-29

FRGs must pay federal, state and local taxes.

Members are jointly liable for injuries or death resulting from organizational negligence. As a result, the FRG should strongly consider carrying liability insurance.
